This is something you often hear people saying when someone stops with training: “Now your muscles will turn into fat”. But this is very wrong!
Your muscle cells cannot be converted into fat cells. So, in case someone will lose muscle mass and gain fat mass, this has most likely to do with the fact that he/she is less active (losing muscle mass) and eats more energy than he/she burns on a daily basis (gaining fat mass). However, these two processes are completely separate and do not necessarily involve each other.
